The Cowichan Lake Sports Arena has reopened after an extensive upgrade to the facility. The project has included the replacement of the facility roof, the creation of four new dressing rooms. A feature of this project was the creation of heat loops that cool washrooms, change rooms and the ice plant while preheating hot tap water, contributing to in-floor heating and providing heat to most of the building. With assistance provided by Gas Tax funding, an eco-friendly parking lot has been completed to finish off the project. The parking lot was redesigned to incorporate a state of the art filtration system to clean surface runoff water before it empties into Cowichan Lake, an ecosystem that houses several salmon species and one endangered fish species, and is a major source of water for the Cowichan Valley.
7 hockey dressing rooms, arena seating for 800, propane heaters in cold viewing area, 75 seat warm viewing area overlooking arena, concession and catering, fabulous multipurpose room, free WiFi.
