Gibsons

(pop. 4,000)

Just an hour away from Vancouver, the Sunshine Coast is a world away in ambiance. It must be something in the water – after all, the area is only accessible by ferry. Sit back and relax, visit artists’ studios or take to its spectacular outdoors.

This popular area within the Vancouver, Coast & Mountain region is accessible by a scenic 40-minute BC Ferries ride from Horseshoe Bay, which drops you in Gibsons.

Gibsons is known as the “Gateway to the Sunshine Coast,” is located on the west shore of Howe Sound. While just 32km/20 mi from Vancouver, Gibsons is a world away in atmosphere, with a fresh-air, small-town ambience. Residents take advantage of the temperate climate and natural vistas to enjoy the beaches, parks, cafes and outdoor recreation for which the area is justly famed.

Further along the Sunshine Coast is the community of Sechelt, North of Roberts Creek. This is a temperate stretch of coastline that, while considered part of the BC mainland, is accessible only by vehicle ferry. The town sits on a narrow strip of land separating the Sechelt Inlet from the Strait of Georgia and is conveniently located at the geographic centre of the "Lower Sunshine Coast." Summers are warm and dry; winters are mild and moist.
