With a population of more than 80,000 and a total of 160,000 including the outlying areas, Kamloops has the right people to successfully host all levels of events anytime of year.
The name Kamloops was derived from a Shuswap Indian word meaning "meeting place". People have been meeting here for hundreds of years for business, to visit friends and relatives, and of course, to participate in sport. Not only are our venues in a class of their own, but the desirable semi-arid climate and many cultural activities will be appealing to all participants and spectators.
Nestled in the valley where the North and South Thompson Rivers meet, Kamloops is easy to get to by road, rail, or air. Driving from major centres like Vancouver, Calgary, and Edmonton is quick and convenient with four major highways coming together in our city. Kamloops' full service airport has daily connecting flights from countless destinations. Once here, you will find that everything is conveniently close. It is easy to get around Kamloops by car or public transit.
In Kamloops, there are unparalleled opportunities to take on intense outdoor adventure, soft leisure, and a fantastic variety of foods and flavour. Enjoy live music at a neighbourhood cafe or dine by candlelight. Explore our unique shops, galleries, and museums during the day, followed by an evening at the theatre or symphony. Or, simply relax and enjoy the warmth of our people and our unhurried lifestyle. We have excellent accommodation choices for whatever your preference, from independently-owned boutique inns and bed & breakfasts, to brand-name hotels. With over 50 hotels and motels varying from economical to elegant, and a total of 3,000 rooms, the choices are endless.
Kamloops is a warm and friendly city that supports sports and recreation to its fullest and there is always a solid support team in place. We have a history of hosting international teams, and look forward to hosting yours!
