(pop. 84,000)

The city of Nanaimo is a classic West Coast community, offering natural beauty at every turn, and vast recreation potential. Nanaimo has one of the longest shorelines in Canada, and a forested mountain backdrop just outside downtown. Here, you can go from the wilderness to the city centre in just a few minutes, and spend more time in the places you want to be.

Vancouver Island's world famous 'island style' hospitality, mild climate, creative and dedicated community members create a perfect environment to host events of all types. The City of Nanaimo, Parks, Recreation and Culture Department is committed to helping you hold your best event here in the Harbour City. What also makes Nanaimo special is its affordability - from hotel room rates to restaurant menus, things are generally less expensive and more accessible in Nanaimo than in Vancouver and Victoria.

The secret is out; Nanaimo is a great place to host events. The community boasts an impressive list of satisfied hosting partners including: BC Summer Games, BC Senior Games, U -17 World Hockey Challenge, Van Isle 360 Regatta, ABA BMX World Championships, Nanaimo Dragon Boat Festival, and the BC Disability Games. Your event will benefit from our past experiences with a wide variety of high caliber events. We are creative, committed and enthusiastic about creating the best event possible for participants, spectators, organizers and the community.

Nanaimo is centrally located on Vancouver Island and is serviced by two BC Ferry terminals providing service to the mainland. The regional airport is currently undergoing major upgrades and is just 20 minutes south of the downtown core. The Comox Airport is just over an hour away and is serviced by WestJet and Air Canada Jazz daily. The Victoria Airport is 131km south, providing international arrivals daily.
