Trail

(pop. 8,000)

Trail is situated on the Columbia River in the West Kootenay region of southern British Columbia, at the halfway point between Vancouver, BC and Calgary, AB. It is a special place with outstanding recreational facilities, a stable diversified economy, and an active sports community.

The City is home to Kootenay Boundary Regional Hospital, the largest diagnostic and acute care hospital in the West Kootenay region and an excellent interior transportation network. Trail is a financial, service and retail centre and has a wide array of shopping options and a well-serviced downtown core.

As national and international championship winners in hockey and curling, it is no wonder that Trail has been designated B.C.’s Best Sports Town. Aside from the numerous NHL stars, National League baseball heroes, BC Sports Hall of Famers and Olympic medal winners calling Trail their hometown, the city of 7,200 also boasts great coaches and first class facilities.

Trail has staged a variety of international hockey events including the 2007 World Junior A Hockey Challenge and teams such as Team Canada, Soviet National Team, Soviet Junior National Team, Soviet Red Army Team, Swedish National Women’s Team, Canadian National Women’s Team and the NHL’s Montreal Canadians have all played in this small and vibrant sports centre.

Trail has successfully hosted a variety of provincial, national and international events. The city embraces its designation as the best sports town by honouring its top athletes with a major monument on its main street. The Home of the Champions statue pays tribute to all those who have contributed in Trail through sports, industry or lifestyle. As one B.C. newspaper said, “In Trail, sport is life.” Residents are immensely proud of their community, as evidenced by their strong volunteerism and many service clubs and organizations. Through their everyday life, residents emanate a “can-do” attitude. Explore your Trail.
