Campbell River is a scenic oceanfront city on the eastern shore of Vancouver Island. It has long been known as the Salmon Capital of the World and more recently as an adventure and eco-tourism hub.
With 23km of trails, Campbell River has more ha/capita of public open space than a typical community. Parks and open spaces define Campbell River, and the citizens value their seawalk, protected green space, access to waterways and views. Because Campbell River is a young community, and the population is quite active, there are sport facilities for every type of sport.
The City of Campbell River has produced a Vision 2025 Plan that values economic prosperity, natural environment, recreation, inclusivity and diversity, culture and heritage, health and safety, excellence in local government, and dynamic families. In keeping with this, the city funds initiatives that aid these values such as supporting Campbell River’s culture and heritage through events and the maintenance of public facilities that are open to all members of society. Local history is important to the community and festivals are abundant and vibrant year-round.
Campbell River is located 264 km north of British Columbia’s capital city, Victoria, and is only 1.5 hours from the nearest ferry from Vancouver.
