The McArthur Island Sports & Events Centre, located 5 minutes from downtown Kamloops on McArthur Island Park, is a year-round multi-sport destination.
Winter sport and training opportunities include speed skating and hockey (both Olympic-sized and NHL-sized ice surfaces under one roof, seating for 1000 and 1500 people respectively) and Curling (6 sheets) with a viewing lounge for 250 people. Viewing for Curling is either rink-side or from the lounge above which also serves as a banquet facility. Also found in the facility is a spacious lobby with concession services, 10 dressing rooms, officials rooms, meeting space and event coordination offices.
The building was renovated in 2006 with the addition of the Olympic Ice surface, and the first event to be hosted was the successful 2006 North American Short Track Speed Skating Championships. We also hosted the Chinese National Speed Skating Team for 2 months this past July - August for on-ice and dryland training.
Also located on McArthur Island are numerous ball diamonds, soccer fields, BMX Park, Skate Park, Lawn Bowling, Executive Golf Course, numerous walking trails and a boat launch - truly a year-round sport destination offering many event or training opportunities.
