All Roads lead to Merritt....at the cross roads of southern British Columbia.

Located at the junction Of Hwys 5 & 97C (exit 286), it’s easy to plan for nearly every type of outdoor activity in the Merritt, BC region. Many hiking and mountain-biking enthusiasts head to the Trans-Canada Trail, which follows the Kettle Valley Railway right-of-way from nearby Brookmere over to Hope. Trails proliferate throughout the region, from ambling strolls alongside lakes to challenging back-country routes.

Merritt (population: Approximately 16, 000 including the surrounding areas) is located 271 km (168 m) northeast of Vancouver in the heart of the Nicola Valley. Blessed with rolling hills, sparkling lakes and a remarkable 2,050 hours per year of sunshine, this area is a haven for four-season outdoor recreation.

Merritt, BC is home to past Olympian's and NHL Hockey Players alike.

Past Olympian's are; Tim Kroeker who competed and won the Men's 110 Meter Hurdles at the 1996 Atlanta Summer Games.
John Beers who in 1972 competed in the Men's High Jump at the Munchen Summer Games.

NHL Hockey Player's who started out with the Merritt Centennials;
Eddy Beers who went on to play for the University of Denver, Calgary and Colorado Flames and Finally the St. Louis Blues.
Grant Mulvey who played for the Chicago Black Hawks and his brother Paul who played for such teams as the Washington Capitals, Pittsburgh Penguins and Los Angeles Kings.

Merritt is rich in history and culture. There are a number of resorts as well as working cattle and guest ranches. A lake a day as long as you stay is our motto and we have one of the most sought after freshwater windsurfing and sailing destinations in the province on Nicola Lake.

Merritt has earned its name as the Country Music Capital of Canada. Hand prints and Murals line the down town with world renowned country music artists who have played at the Merritt Mountain Music Festival for 17 years. The Hall of Honor is scheduled to open soon.

Sport Hosting Portfolio

Merritt plays host to a number of sporting events through out the year such as:
CowTrail Classic, a Cycling BC sanctioned race put on in May by the Merritt Mountain Bike Association.
Annual Pro Rodeo every Labour Day long weekend with the Little Britches and High School Rodeo's through out the year.
Pacific Forest Rally holds their Canadian Rally Championships every October.
Nicola Lake is famous for it's sailing competitions.
A number of Hockey (we have 2 rinks in out area), Curling and Volley Ball tournaments plus swim competitions.
Men, Women's and mixed league ball tournaments through out the summer months.
Ongoing going seasonal Golf tournaments at the 3 Golf courses that surround the area.
