Powell River has become a hotspot for businesses, families and retirees relocating from urban centres from across North America and the World. The community offers a wonderful mixture of urban and rural amenities that contribute to a 'Superior Quality of Life'.
Although the beautiful natural setting is the region's most startling feature, it does offer modern amenities like a new full service hospital; post secondary education (Vancouver Island University); a wide range of retail stores and services; above par recreational complex; an airport that offers mulitple flights and destinations; and a solid telecommunications infrastructure, including High Speed Internet service.
The Powell River region also has the distinction of being the only 'Model Commmunity' in the province, highly recognized for the level of accessibility that is provided to those with physical and developmental disabilities.
Powell River operates under the direction of the Vancouver Coastal Health Authority and Powell River General Hospital is centrally located in the heart of the community, but provides service to the whole region. With 33 acute care beds in operation, the hospital is able to expand as needed and has a potential capacity of 80 beds. Powell River General has three operating rooms, a hydrotherapy pool, laboratory, renal unit, oncology department, and x-ray and phsyical therapy facilities. A helipad for air ambulance services is adjacent to the emergency department.
Powell River is very fortunate to have a large Recreation Complex which houses two ice surfaces, a pool, performing arts theatre, fitness and weight room as well as meeting and banquet rooms. Our outdoor venues include a new turf field with lights for night training, a wheelchair accessible track, many natural grass fields and endless natural trails for jogging and biking. Groups looking to stay in Powell River can find very comfortable and affordable accomodation, with superb West Coast Hospitality.
